2005 Distinguished Service Award - Russ Cahill

What can you say about Russ Cahill? To list his service, contributions, favors and loans to camp would fill pages and pages. Russ makes things happen. He has consistently seen where 4-H Camp Ohio has had needs and then helped us to address those needs.

During his association with camp, Russ has taken the lead in building the covered footbridge, getting power and lights to the campfire circle, re-engineering and rebuilding the campfire circle, securing three camp vehicles, furnishing Campbell Lodge and countless other projects.

Russ and Peg Cahill have contributed financially to camp in our capital improvements campaign, but they also contributed their time and service to clean and organize Campbell Lodge, scrub floors and build walls.

Russ did the excavation for the new cement slab in front of cabin #4 this fall. He often brings his own or borrowed equipment all the way from Kenton to help with projects at camp. Russ loaned and delivered his chipper, which was a godsend in clean-up after the ice storm.

4-H Camp Ohio was lucky to be introduced to Russ Cahill and for him to care enough to devote his time, resources and energy to this operation. He deserves this distinguished service award, as well as our thanks and praise.

2005 Outstanding Volunteer - Jason Mehringer

Our Outstanding Volunteer for 2005, Jason Mehringer contributed both time and talent to 4-H Camp Ohio.

Jason helped with clean-up during the ice storm, worked with his mother, Chris, to clean, organize and paint the retreat kitchen, helped with construction of the horizontal climbing wall, mowed grass, and cleaned and oiled the multi-purpose room floor. He edited, typed, collated and mailed one issue of the newsletter, and he was on site daily in the spring and summer.

Jason has been a consistent contributor of assistance to 4-H Camp Ohio. He deserves to be recognized with this outstanding volunteer award.

2005 Special Recognition Award - Dennis Elliott & John Fark

Both of our special recognition award recipients have taken an active part in the operation of 4-H Camp Ohio for years. Both have served as president of the board and, probably, on every committee. Denny and John have always attended workdays and both have served many years as camp directors leading groups at camp for 20+ years. They have contributed time to help build our tower, challenge course and ropes course.

Denny and John have helped to train clients, counselors and camp staff to lead our adventure programs. They have helped during inspections, rebuilds and renovations to our adventure programs. They have written and revised our training materials and program handbooks.

I think I can safely say that our adventure programs would not be what they are today without Denny Elliott and John Fark.

4-H Camp Ohio is a better place because of their loyalty and devotion to this camp.
