Food Service

Food, Nutrition and Table Courtesy:
4-H Camp Ohio prides itself on providing safe, wholesome, healthy and delicious meals that meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (http://www.health.gov/dietaryguidelines/) and the USDA Food Guide Pyramid recommendations (http://schoolmeals.nal.usda.gov/py/pmap.htm).

Dining HallWe feel it is important to teach nutrition and table courtesy in all camp programs. We recommend a counselor or adult at every table. They would be responsible for seeing that there is only one container of each food on the table, that the food is passed and that everyone has a serving before seconds are taken. All our tables are set up family-style with 10 settings/people per table. Hoppers are chosen by the group and report to the dining hall 15 minutes before each meal to set the tables. Hoppers are then responsible for getting the food and drinks and cleaning up their tables once everyone is finished eating. There will be a camp staff person there at the first meal to give instructions to the hoppers and help things run smoothly. We ask that a responsible, mature person from the visiting camp staff be in charge of the dining room during the entire camping period. This would include both table setting and clean up for each meal. The person in charge is urged to equally distribute boys and girls at tables. Food is, thus, more evenly divided.

Meals are chosen by the user group from a menu camp provides. Vegetarian options are available for all meat entrees in our menu choices. If a person chooses this option they are expected to stick to it throughout their entire camp stay.

Visiting camp directors who are bringing campers with food allergies or other special needs that require accommodation should contact our Food Service Director 2 weeks prior to their camping dates to make arrangements. This does NOT include any weight reduction diets such as Atkins. 4-H Camp Ohio cannot accommodate these types of diet regimens.
