Bucks for Bunks
Through the efforts
of County Extension educators, many volunteers and 4-H Camp Ohio staff
the bunks from the “Bucks For Bunks” campaign are all assembled
and in place in our cabins and dorms. Thanks to Ken Lafontaine for leading
this effort and to everyone who contributed cash, labor, and/or tools
to this project.
Licking County
Jr. Youth to Youth Conference
Our first major
food service group comes to camp March 2nd. The Licking County Jr. Youth
to Youth Conference has been a regular here for nearly 20 years. This
weekend workshop is for Jr. High students and focuses on dealing with
peer pressure, intelligent decision making and positive self-image.
Class A Water
Supply operators
Facility Manager
Doug Clark and Executive Director Jerry Duffie have trained and been
certified as Class A Water Supply operators. New Ohio EPA requirements
mandate facilities such as 4-H Camp Ohio have or hire someone with a
Class A certification.
Volunteer of
the Year
Harold Bower was
named Volunteer of the Year during the recent 4-H Camp Ohio Corporation
Meeting. Mr. Bower has donated many hours mowing the camp through out
the summer and worked diligently with our recent tree harvest. Thank
you Harold Bower for all your work.
Buck$ for Bunk$
4-H Summer Camp
has positively touched the lives of many youth in for nearly a century.
Camp Ohio has been the place thousands of 4-H members have called home
for 5 days each summer. Camp has helped countless 4-H members develop
life skills they use each day.
Two years ago we
started the Camp Ohio Facilities Improvement Campaign with the goal
of raising $45,000 to pay for improvements to the cabins and restrooms
at Camp Ohio. The cabins and bathrooms are showing their age from the
wear and tear over 5000 campers Camp Ohio serves annually. To date we
have raised over $24,000 toward that goal and have completed a large
number of improvement projects.
It’s hard to believe but most of the bunks in use today were built
at least 30 years ago. Some may be close to 50 years old. That is why
Hardin County is helping with an effort to raise funds to replace all
the worn out bunks in the cabins. We are calling it the “Bucks
for Bunks” campaign.
We are asking individuals,
families and businesses to consider donating $50.00. That $50.00 will
cover most of the cost of the wood and hardware needed to build one
double bunk. I hope your will consider making a donation to our “Bucks
for Bunks” Campaign. Our goal is to keep the facilities in good
condition so we can continue to offer 4-H members a place where they
can learn and grow and build lasting memories.
